Bezalel Kennels is a hobby preservation breeder of AKC & UKC Jack Russell Terriers. We're based on a small homestead in Oldtown, MD. I've been involved with dogs my entire life, working as a veterinary technician through high school, and then in animal rescue as an animal control officer for 14yrs. My current full time job is back as a veterinary technician in Keyser, WV. I became active in dog sports with the purchase of my first JRT in 2021 and it was love at first meeting. Growing up around horses there was always a Russell at the barn and I always knew one day I'd get one myself. I'm only disappointed I didn't do it sooner!
I'm a member of the Blue Ridge Russell Terrier Club and Upper Potomac Valley Kennel Club.
I specialize in smooth coat Russells but occasionally also offer rough or broken coats. I only breed 1-2 litters a year, sometimes even skipping years. I focus on improving the breed and my lines. I breed for myself first, usually keeping back a dog. I screen all my buyers to ensure a good fit. I offer a health guarantee and lifetime support. I will ALWAYS take back a dog (at any age, for any reason) if the new family can no longer keep them. Health & temperament are paramount in my program. No dog is ever bred before 2yrs of age and all dogs used for breeding are OFA cleared and embark genetic tested. They're also titled in both AKC and UKC conformation as well as various performance sports. I believe strongly in dogs that adhere to the breed standard in looks, attitude, and purpose. Please see the puppy raising page for more details on how my puppies are raised.

Is the Jack Russell Right for You?
JRTs are a high energy, high drive dog. A big dog in a little body if you will. They do best in active homes that will give them a job, go on adventures, and provide consistent training. They are not a breed for everyone. They are not couch potatoes. Left to their own devices they can be destructive chewers and barkers. While many will say JRTs don't do well in homes with small children or cats I believe a little differently. All my dogs live in my home with my 3 cats. Some are more prone to give chase than others but with consistency and training they all co-abide just fine. Ideally homes with small pets and/or children should seek out lower "drive" dogs. It doesn't mean a JRT is off the table but please truly consider your lifestyle and expectations before getting one.
What's in a name?
Bezalel (pronounced Beh-za-lel) was the original call name for my first Jack Russell. The dog who started it all and got me involved with dog sports. A big name for a little guy it was later shortened to "Bezzie" but i knew from that first moment that my kennel would be named in his honor.
Bezalel is a biblical name. In Hebrew it means "In the shadow of God". Bezalel was the person appointed by God to build his tabernacle and all its furnishings. A master craftsman. A fitting name for a foundation sire. but more than that, Bezalel was someone who dedicated his life to serving and honoring God, placing him above all. I strive to do the same in life and owe anything I have to His glory and mercy. I hope that my home and kennel will always honor God and I feel very blessed to have these quality dogs in my life.
